Belize defeat Honduras 3-1 at VI Under 23 Central American Volleyball Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize beat Honduras 3 sets to 1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-21 y 25-22) on Wednesday in the AFECAVOL VI Under 23 Central American Volleyball Championship at the Gimnasio Jorge Galeano in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Fatima Ramirez (Fatoumata Camara) led Belize with 23 points, Nisaan Martinez contributed 18,  while captain Gareth Bruce added 13.

Belize now stand at 2-2 having beating Costa Rica 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 25-16) on Tuesday but having fallen to Guatemala 2-3 (25-17, 18-25, 21-25, 25-23 y 14-16) on Sunday and to Nicaragua 1-3 (21-25, 25-18, 18-25, 15-25) on Monday.

Guatemala beat Panama 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-14) while Costa Rica downed El Salvador 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-22) in the first two games on Wednesday.

Nicaragua and Guatemala lead the tournament with three wins and no losses. Nicaragua are first with 14 points and Guatemala second with 13. Costa Rica (2-1), Honduras (2-1), and Belize (2-2) follow with 11 points each. El Salvador and Panama trail with 0-4 records and no points.

Belize play Panama on Thursday at 5:00 pm. Costa Rica open against Nicaragua at 2:30 pm while Honduras close against Guatemala at 7:30 pm.

Thursday, June 27       Belize – Panama         @ 5:00 pm

Friday, June 28            Belize Rest Day

Saturday, June 29       Belize – El Salvador    @ 2:30 pm
