By Zoila Palma: Belize strengthened its regional partnerships this week as it took part in UN Tourism’s 2nd Regional Conference on Women’s Empowerment in Tourism for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The event brought together government officials, industry leaders and advocates committed to expanding opportunities for women across the tourism sector, a vital driver of economic growth throughout the region.
During the conference, Belize advanced a major step in regional cooperation by signing a Tourism Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Republic of El Salvador on November 24.
The agreement, concluded between Belize’s Ministry of Tourism, Youth, Sports & Diaspora Relations and El Salvador’s Ministry of Tourism, aims to promote sustainable, safe and inclusive tourism development between the two nations.
Under the new MoU, Belize and El Salvador will collaborate on best-practice sharing, cultural and language exchange initiatives, and programs designed to strengthen diaspora engagement in tourism.
The agreement also reflects the growing recognition of tourism’s role in empowering women and communities across Latin America and the Caribbean.
