By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s National Cycling Team arrived in Guatemala City on Thursday, October 16, and headed to Quetzaltenango, the country’s second-largest city, which will the venue for their sport.
Situated at an altitude of 7,982 feet above sea level, Quetzaltenango presents a high-elevation challenge that will test endurance and strategy across all disciplines.
The Belize Cycling Team features a decorated lineup of regional champions and rising stars:
- Derrick Chavarria — 2025 Caribbean Under-23 Road Race and Individual Time Trial gold medallist
- Oscar Quiroz — 2025 Caribbean Elite Road Race silver medallist
- Cory Williams — 2024 Caribbean Elite Road Race gold medallist
- Justin Williams — , seasoned international competitor
- Jyven Gonzalez and Jaylen Briceño, rising talents in Belizean cycling
“These athletes are currently in transit to their respective satellite city where their competitions will be held,” Chief of Mission Herman Pastor said.
With altitude, terrain, and regional rivals in play, Belize’s cyclists are poised to represent the nation with strength and precision.
