Belize could receive half a billion dollars or more in climate change funding coming out of COP30

By Aaron Humes: Cabinet welcomed the report from the Ministry of Sustainable Development outlining Belize’s participation at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), which was held in Belém, Brazil.

The report outlined practical benefits gained by Belize, and new funding opportunities where Belize is eligible for several major grant windows exceeding BZ$500 million (US$250 million) in areas such as housing, protected areas, early warning systems, technology upgrades, and support for building resilience.

The 15-member delegation was led by Minister Orlando Habet and CEO Milagro Matus. The final deal was weakened by key absences including that of the United States.
