By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Government of Belize says it is gravely concerned by escalating violence against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
In a statement released Tuesday from Belmopan, the Foreign Ministry said the violence over recent months has caused loss of life on both sides and triggered further settler reprisals against neighbouring Palestinian communities.
Citing United Nations reporting, Belize said 2026 has already seen the highest levels of settler violence in the West Bank since monitoring began, with thousands of Palestinians displaced this year through attacks, demolitions and evictions.
“Belize condemns these attacks in the strongest terms,” the statement reads, extending condolences to all civilian victims and their families.
The Government said Israel, as the occupying Power, bears primary responsibility under international humanitarian law to protect the Palestinian population, including from settler violence, and to hold those responsible accountable.
Belize is calling on Israel to take immediate and effective measures to prevent further settler violence, to bring perpetrators to justice, and to refrain from actions that collectively punish Palestinian civilians.
The statement closes with a call for the protection of all civilians, in Israel and in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
