Belize Coast Guard welcomes new Commandant

By Zoila Palma:  Today, the Belize Coast Guard welcomed its new commandant, the third in its 20-year history as the military force that protects the nation’s sea spaces.

Rear Admiral Elton Bennett, who was sworn in as the Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard 6 years ago, handed over command and leadership of the organization to Captain Gregory Soberanis.

As part of the ceremony for his ascension to his new post, Captain Soberanis was also formally promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral Lower Half.

The event was attended by Governor-General Dame Froyla Tzalam, Prime Minister John Briceño, senior members of the Government of Belize, and members of the Ministries of Home Affairs, National Defence, and Border Security.

The Prime Minister thanked the outgoing commandant for his exemplary leadership and expressed confidence in the incoming commandant.
