Belize closes out May with cloudy skies and scattered storms as hurricane season arrives tomorrow

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Today is Sunday May 31st 2026. The last day of May. And Belize is closing out the month exactly the way it spent most of it.

Forecaster Catherine Cumberbatch at the Belize National Meteorological Service reports that moist and unstable conditions continue to linger over the region this morning bringing cloudy skies with some sunny breaks throughout the day.

Here is how Sunday plays out across the country.

During the morning hours showers and thunderstorms will develop mostly along the coast and northern areas. By afternoon and evening that activity shifts inland. Tonight skies will be mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms scattered around the country but more concentrated along coastal areas.

And tomorrow morning? More of the same.

Temperatures today are sitting at 92 degrees Fahrenheit inland, 87 degrees along the coast and a more comfortable 81 degrees in the hills.

At sea a moderate sea state prevails with east to southeast winds at 10 to 20 knots and waves running between 4 and 6 feet. Fishermen and small craft operators should exercise caution on the water today.

Today’s high tide is at 9:18 this morning with a low at 4:57 this afternoon and another high at 11:04 tonight. The sun sets at 6:23 this evening.

The outlook for Monday and Monday night is for similar conditions to continue.
