Belize closes July under clouds with a fair Saturday ahead

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The final day of July arrives with one more tropical wave, bringing showers and thunderstorms to central and northern areas this morning and rough conditions for boaters, before a mainly fair weekend opens the month of August.

According to the National Meteorological Service, an approaching weak tropical wave is supporting moist and unstable conditions over the country. Skies will be cloudy at times today and partly cloudy tonight, with a few showers and thunderstorms likely affecting mostly central and northern areas this morning, and activity decreasing and becoming isolated this afternoon.

Boaters face the day’s main caution. A small craft caution is in effect, warning of gusty winds and locally rough seas, especially near heavy showers or thunderstorms. Winds will blow from the east at 10 to 20 knots, with moderate to rough seas and waves of 4 to 7 feet. Operators of small crafts are advised to exercise caution.

Temperatures along the coast will reach a high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) and a low of 82 (28 Celsius). Inland areas will climb to 93 degrees Fahrenheit (33 Celsius) and drop to 73 (23 Celsius). In the hills, expect a high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) and a low of 68 (20 Celsius).

On the tropical front, the reassurance holds. Tropical cyclone formation is not expected in the region over the next 48 hours.

Looking ahead to Saturday and Saturday night, mainly fair weather returns with only isolated showers expected, a promising start to the first weekend of August.

Today’s high tides are at 10:48 AM and 11:47 PM, with a low tide at 5:50 PM and another low at 5:26 AM tomorrow. The sun sets this evening at 6:26 PM and rises tomorrow at 5:32 AM. The forecast was issued by forecaster Tareek Matthews.
