By Zoila Palma: Belize has advanced to 51st place in the UCI Nations Ranking for road cycling following a strong performance at the 2026 Pan-American Road Cycling Championships, according to the Cycling Federation of Belize.
The federation noted that the result reflects Belize’s growing presence as an emerging force in international cycling.
The championships were held in Montería, Colombia, from March 16 to 22, where Team Belize competed with a delegation of three junior riders, one Under-23 (U23) cyclist, and six elite athletes.
The team was accompanied by Federation President Glen Flowers, General Secretary Leticia Westby, and National Team Coach Ken Gokool.
During the competition, Belize delivered solid results across multiple categories. In the Individual Time Trial, Keith Enwright Jr. placed ninth in the junior division, while Jaylen Briceno secured tenth in the U23 category. In the elite division, Cory Williams finished 13th and Derrick Chavarria placed 20th.
Road race performances also contributed to Belize’s improved standings.
Enwright Jr. placed 20th and Jamal Tablada 28th in the junior category, while Briceno finished 21st in the U23 race. In the elite division, Jyven Gonzalez led the team with an eighth-place finish, followed by Chavarria in 27th, Cory Williams in 28th, Fernando Rosado in 46th, and Justin Williams in 79th.
As a result of these performances, Belize is now ranked 11th in the Pan-American region and holds the top position in the Caribbean.
“Team Belize’s strong and determined performance has further solidified its reputation as an emerging nation in regional and international cycling. The Belize Cycling Federation commends all athletes for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence. Congratulations to Team Belize on an outstanding showing,” the Cycling Federation of Belize noted.
