By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): What was meant to be a Sunday afternoon of socializing for a family in San Estevan ended in a police report and a manhunt. A 24-year-old woman visited the Orange Walk Police Station to report a physical assault allegedly perpetrated by her aunt, who was visiting from Belize City.
The trouble began when a “commotion” erupted between family members over a disagreement involving the family’s grandparents. According to the report, the situation turned physical when the aunt pushed the woman’s mother to the ground. In an attempt to protect her mother, the woman was drawn into a struggle where she claims her aunt choked her and caused several injuries to her hand and neck.
“This is the first time I have ever had a quarrel with my aunt,” the woman told Orange Walk Police, noting that the violence was unexpected. The struggle was eventually broken up by the woman’s uncle, but the damage was already done.
Police have officially classified the victim’s injuries as “Harm.” The suspect remains at large and is wanted by police in connection with the assault.
