By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 26-year-old Belize City woman has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison following a domestic dispute that allegedly left her common-law husband with multiple stab wounds and a cut to his neck.
Amber Arnold appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison, where she was arraigned on a charge of wounding in relation to Marvin Grant, 42, a labourer of Zericote Street.
Initial proceedings saw Arnold plead guilty with an explanation; however, after expressing disagreement with aspects of the facts read in court, the Senior Magistrate entered an equivocal plea of not guilty on her behalf.
According to the allegations, the incident occurred on Sunday, March 22, 2026, sometime after 10:00 p.m., at the couple’s residence. Grant reported to police that after receiving a phone call from a private number, Arnold answered a return call and became upset when a female voice responded, accusing him of infidelity.
Grant alleges that Arnold then retrieved a knife from the kitchen, waved it while cursing him, and subsequently broke a pint bottle. He reported that she held the broken bottle to his throat, causing a cut, and later stabbed him twice to the upper back. He also sustained injuries to his arm. Grant said he exited the home and later observed wounds to his neck, back, and arm.
Police issued Grant with a medico-legal form, and a doctor later classified his injuries as wounding, leading to Arnold’s detention and charge.
Although the prosecution did not object to bail, Senior Magistrate Dennison denied Arnold bail, citing the seriousness of the allegations. He noted that the incident could have ended more severely, emphasizing that the court does not consider gender but rather the roles of victims and defendants. He further pointed out that the allegation involved a weapon being placed at the complainant’s throat.
Arnold, who stated she works under the LIU Programme as a community member in the Collect Division, was advised of her right to apply for bail at the High Court.
Following the ruling, Arnold was visibly upset and reportedly shouted in court, claiming, “This man tried to kill me.”
She is scheduled to return to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court in May 2026.
