Belize City woman is charged with handling stolen goods after burglary

By Aaron Humes: After two items allegedly stolen from a burglary of a house nearby were found in her residence, a Belize City woman has been charged with handling stolen goods.

35-year-old Rynesha Morter of Sunflower Street is accused of dishonestly assisting in retaining a 40-inch flat screen television, valued at $800, and black Amazon Fire Stick valued at $900, stolen from the home of Tenesia Payne on Flamboyant Street while she was on vacation in the United States.

In court, Morter pleaded not guilty and was offered bail on the sum of $800 plus one surety of the same amount which she net before 12 noon Friday. Morter is due back in court on March 15, 2024. Morter is not to contact the virtual complainant in any way whether directly or indirectly.

Payne reported that her house had been burglarized between December 25, 2023, when she said she had secured it before leaving, and her return on January 8, when she discovered items with a total value of $3,274 had been stolen.

Investigators acted on information gathered and executed a search warrant at Morter’s residence where the television set and Fire Stick which Payne had reported among the stolen items was allegedly recovered from her home.
