By Breaking Belize News Staff: Delcia Abdullah, who turned 51 today, and her daughter, Adilah Abdullah, are facing criminal charges following an altercation with the Belize Police Department that began after the Abdullahs failed to produce surveillance footage related to a recent murder on Reggae Street. The pair appeared in court today to answer charges of obstructing a police officer, with Adilah also facing a charge of aggravated assault on a female officer.
The incident occurred on October 9, 2024, when police sought surveillance footage from the Abdullahs in connection to the murder of 36-year-old Floyd Wade/Hyde. When Delcia informed officers that her camera was not working, police returned the following day, forcibly entering her home, damaging property, and seizing items including a SIM card. Both women claim their rights were violated during the raid.
After the incident escalated, the mother-daughter duo was charged with obstructing Cpl. Francisco Martinez. Adilah is also accused of assaulting a police officer during the raid. Both pleaded not guilty and were released on bail, set at $1,000 each, with conditions attached.
The family has retained legal counsel and is considering suing the Belize Police Department for damages and wrongful charges. Delcia Abdullah stated that she feels the police targeted her after she appeared on television to share her story. The case will return to court on December 16, 2024.
The murder investigation involves the death of Wade/Hyde, who was found stabbed in a yard on Reggae Street. Wade/Hyde, known to police for previous criminal charges, was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after the attack.
