By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 34-year-old mechanic is facing six months behind bars after being convicted of pipe possession for the fifth time. Oscar Mauricio, of West Street, was sentenced on Friday following his guilty plea to the charge of possessing a crack cocaine pipe.
Mauricio appeared unrepresented before the Magistrate in Court #7, where allegations were presented that on November 14, 2024, he was found at #124 Orange Street with a four-centimeter chrome metal pipe, designed for smoking crack cocaine.
Hoping for a non-custodial sentence, Mauricio pleaded guilty but was swiftly reminded by the Magistrate of her prior warning during his fourth conviction. The Magistrate had previously cautioned him against expecting leniency if he reappeared on the same charge.
This time, Mauricio was sentenced to four months in prison. Additionally, court records revealed he had outstanding fines for prior offenses. The Magistrate issued a warrant converting those fines into further jail time, resulting in an additional two months behind bars.
Mauricio will serve a total of six months imprisonment, effective immediately.
