Belize City man ‘struggling with alcoholism’ fined $300 for stealing two bottles of Tropical Brandy; Remanded under State of Emergency

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man who previously made headlines for impersonating a police officer was back before the court on Monday, this time for stealing bottles of rum from a store on Central American Boulevard.

Thirty-one-year-old Dorian Emmanuel Blair appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6, where he was charged with theft after being accused of stealing two one-liter bottles of Tropical Brandy Rum valued at $61.90.

Blair wasted no time in pleading guilty to the charge.

In mitigation, Blair told the court that he has been struggling with drug and alcohol addiction and pleaded for leniency.

“I have been struggling with drugs and alcohol addiction. I have never tried something like this before, hence why I plead guilty and asking the court for leniency,” Blair said.

The court spared the first-time offender from immediate jail time and instead fined him $300 plus a $5 cost of court fine, which he must pay by July 31, 2026, or serve two months imprisonment in default.

However, despite avoiding prison on the theft charge, Blair was not released. Minutes after the arraignment, he was escorted back to the Queen Street Police Station where he remains detained under the current State of Emergency (SOE).

According to police, on Saturday, May 9, 2026, around 8:40 a.m., a 21-year-old store clerk at Bosco Store on Central American Boulevard reported that a co-worker alerted him about a suspicious customer.

The clerk reviewed surveillance footage and allegedly observed a man matching Blair’s description placing a one-liter bottle of Tropical Brandy valued at $30.95 into his pants before leaving the store without paying.

Police say the same man later returned to the store wearing the same clothing, took another bottle of rum, and again walked out without paying. The clerk reportedly chased after the suspect and caught him a short distance away before escorting him to the police station.
