Belize City man shot while sitting in car outside home

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police are investigating an attempted murder after a man was shot late Thursday night while sitting inside his vehicle outside his home.

Reports indicate that around 11:30 p.m. on March 5, 2026, police received information that a person had been transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) with gunshot injuries.

Officers visited the hospital’s Accident and Emergency section where they encountered 26-year-old Tyrel Andrewin, an unemployed resident of Plues Street, Belize City, who was receiving medical treatment.

Initial investigations reveal that around 11:25 p.m., Andrewin was inside his red Hyundai sedan parked in front of his home along with a female companion when a silver Caravan van without license plates drove up beside the vehicle.

Police say the passenger of the van reportedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire, injuring Andrewin before the vehicle sped off along Plues Street.

Andrewin was rushed to the hospital by a family member and remains in critical condition, with doctors preparing him for surgery.

Crime Scene investigators later processed the area and recovered one expended 9mm shell.

Investigations into the shooting are ongoing
