By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City construction worker is behind bars after being charged with possession of unlicensed ammunition.
Justin Alexander Moody, 22, of Hydes Lane, was arraigned before a Senior Magistrate in Court #3, where he was read a single charge of kept ammunition without a gun license.
Police allege that on Monday, March 10, 2025, at the corner of New Road and Hydes Lane, Moody was found in possession of 43 live rounds of .22 rifle ammunition. He did not have a gun license issued by the Firearm and License Board.
During his arraignment, Moody pleaded guilty with an explanation, stating that someone advised him to plead guilty. However, the Senior Magistrate rejected the plea, clarifying that a guilty plea must be voluntary and only if he was admitting to the offense. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf instead.
Due to the nature of the offense, which falls under Section 16 of the Crimes Control and Criminal Act, Moody was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison. He is scheduled to return to court on May 12, 2025.
