By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City construction worker narrowly avoided prison after pleading guilty to stabbing a relative during a violent dispute. Thirty-four-year-old Francis Arana of Lavender Street appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Ludlow Black on Friday, August 29, 2025, where he admitted to committing aggravated assault with a knife.
Police say the victim was rushed to the KHMH and survived the attack. Magistrate Black, noting Arana’s early guilty plea, remorse, and lack of prior violent convictions, opted for a fine instead of jail time. Arana was ordered to pay $400 plus $5 court costs by September 30, 2025, or face four months’ imprisonment.
