Belize City man fined $100 after being caught with crack pipe, vows to seek rehab help

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Horace Cadle, a 55-year-old unemployed resident of Belize City, has been fined after pleading guilty to possession of a crack pipe, and says he plans to seek rehabilitation help on his own.

Cadle appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Ludlow Black, where he admitted to having a silver metal pipe measuring 3.5 inches, made for smoking crack cocaine. He was caught by police on patrol in Taylor’s Alley on Monday, April 21, 2025. Officers reported that Cadle attempted to flee when he saw them but was apprehended and searched, leading to the discovery of the pipe tucked in his pants waist.

While Cadle had no previous convictions for possession of a pipe, he openly admitted in court that he has battled drug addiction for over two years, explaining that it was introduced to him during hard times and has contributed to stress and family struggles.

Although the court showed concern for his situation and discussed possible rehabilitation options, there was no immediate institution available to assist him through the court system. Cadle, however, said he plans to reach out to family abroad to fund his entry into a rehabilitation program in western Belize.

For his guilty plea, Magistrate Black fined Cadle $100 plus $5 cost of court, with a payment deadline of May 21, 2025, or face two weeks imprisonment in default.
