By Breaking Belize News Staff: A weekend dispute between two Belize City neighbors over a vehicle tire has landed one man in serious legal trouble, resulting in multiple charges and a one-year driving disqualification.
James Alexander Locario, 57, a security officer of Myvette Street, appeared unrepresented in Belize City Magistrate’s Court #4 where he faced four charges: three traffic offenses and one criminal offense of threat of death.
The incident occurred on June 5, 2025, when Locario, allegedly attempting to move a vehicle to let a garbage truck pass, reversed and touched his neighbor’s vehicle tire. A heated argument followed, during which Locario reportedly told his neighbor, “When I’m done with you, you won’t move again. I will come and tie you and kill you.”
Locario pleaded guilty to three of the four charges: driving without third-party risk insurance, driving without a valid Belize driver’s license, and driving without due care and attention. He was fined $150 each for the two license-related offenses, plus court costs, totaling $310 due by June 30 and July 18 respectively, or face one month in jail per count.
Although Locario never possessed a valid driver’s license, the court disqualified him from obtaining one for a full year. The presiding Magistrate expressed disbelief at his claim that he wasn’t actually “driving,” warning him that if he is caught behind the wheel again while disqualified, he could face a lifetime ban from ever obtaining a license in Belize.
For the remaining charge of threat of death, as well as driving without due care and attention, Locario was granted bail of $1,000 with one surety under strict conditions: he must stay at least 25 feet away from the complainant and refrain from any interference.
However, before he could post bail, an old outstanding fine of $800 resurfaced. The Magistrate ordered him to pay it immediately, but Locario was unable to do so and was remanded to Belize Central Prison until payment is made.
Locario maintains that the entire situation was a misunderstanding and claims his neighbor is often the aggressor. His next court date is scheduled for July 23, 2025.
