By Aaron Humes: 34-year-old Lindford Winston Lord is facing serious legal troubles after reportedly being caught attempting to dispose of a firearm without a license. Lord has been charged with three offenses, including the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as having a firearm with its serial number removed.

On Sunday evening, December 28, around 6:48 p.m., per ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer, “…the team of officers [from GI-3 and Special Branch] were on an operation in Pelican Street when their attention was drawn to a group of male persons who were next to a Nissan Rogue vehicle. When the officers stopped and identified themself with a view to conducting a search, Lord, who was in the driver’s seat, exited the vehicle and began to walk away. The officers observed that he went under his shirt and retrieved what appeared to be a firearm, which he then threw, which landed in a property on top of a dog house. Lord was escorted to the area where the firearm landed, and that firearm was observed to be a nine millimeter pistol, and a magazine containing eight live rounds of nine millimeter ammunition was also retrieved.”

When asked if he had a firearm license, Lord reportedly admitted he did not. In court on Monday, Lord appeared unrepresented before the Chief Magistrate, where he entered a plea of not guilty to all three charges. Given the nature of the allegations, bail was denied, and he has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until March 30, 2026.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding illegal firearms and public safety, as law enforcement continues to crack down on gun-related offenses. ASP Smith advised that “when a police [officer] has reasonable suspicion to conduct a search and indicates that to you, you must stay where you are and it would be greatly appreciated if you comply with the search. The officer will identify himself and say to you that he has reason to believe there is something illegal on your person.”
