By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 42-year-old Belize City man is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being accused of raping his son’s girlfriend.
Because of the close family relationship between the accused and the alleged victim, the man’s identity is being withheld to protect her.
He appeared late Monday evening before Magistrate Mannon Dennison, where he was read a single charge of rape. No plea was taken due to the indictable nature of the offense.
Although the prosecutor did not object to bail, Magistrate Dennison denied it, citing the seriousness of the charge and the family ties between the accused and the complainant. The man was remanded until his next court date set for October 4, 2025.
According to police, the report was made on January 18, 2025, when a woman told investigators that around 3:00 a.m. that same day, while she was asleep in her room, her father-in-law entered and had sexual intercourse with her against her will.
