By Aaron Humes: Timothy Oscar Elijio, a 43-year-old resident of Neat & Clean Street, Fabers Road Extension Area, Belize City, ultimately pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance with intent to supply.
Elijio’s case took several turns during his appearance at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. Initially pleading guilty, he later contested the facts presented in court, leading to an equivocal plea being entered on his behalf. Subsequently, Elijio reversed his plea once again, admitting ownership of the drugs. Consequently, he was fined $5,000 by the sitting Magistrate, who opted to spare him from the mandatory minimum custodial sentence of $10,000 and 3 years in jail due to his status as a first-time offender for drug-related offences.
Police officers searched Elijio’s residence on Wednesday, August 21, following intelligence gathered regarding illegal drugs, firearms, and ammunition. During the search, the officers discovered 112 grams of cannabis concealed inside jackets hanging on the wall in one of the rooms. Elijio initially claimed ownership of the cannabis, implicating himself and absolving his common-law wife from involvement.
