By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Belize City Magistrate’s Court is joining courts countrywide in observing Public Service Week with a week of activities aimed at recognizing and uplifting staff.
Acting Clerk of Court Denicia Vellair said the activities are being held to show appreciation to court staff for their hard work and service to the public. The week began on Monday with a complimentary staff breakfast at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Coney Drive.
The activities continue on Tuesday with a “Snack Cart Surprise,” followed by Staff Shout Out Day on Wednesday, Appreciation Day on Thursday, and a Friday “Wind Down” session with in-house activities from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Vellair explained that Public Service Week activities are also being held at Magistrate’s Courts in San Ignacio, Corozal, Belmopan, Dangriga, Independence Village, Punta Gorda and San Pedro, with each Clerk of Court responsible for coordinating activities in their respective jurisdiction.
She said Staff Shout Out Day will allow employees to write notes of appreciation to each other, recognizing leadership, customer service, working relationships and staff morale. Appreciation Day will include a special lunch for staff, who will be able to choose a meal of their choice.
According to Vellair, the week is meant to remind court staff and employees that their work as public officers and frontline workers is valued and does not go unnoticed.
A backdrop has also been set up inside the Belize City Magistrate’s Court to commemorate Public Service Week, where staff and members of the public are invited to take pictures.
Among the staff recognized this week is Darrel Arnold, an IT Technician and First Class Clerk who has served at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for 16 years.
Also highlighted was Corporal Simon Arana, 48, who is from southern Belize and has served in the Belize Police Department for more than 19 years, including 10 years as a corporal. Arana is the officer in charge of the cellblock at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court and said he continues to take pride in giving back to his community through his work.
Other officers recognized include Arturo Murray, who has served in the Belize Police Department for more than a decade, and Woman Police Corporal Jenwah Arzu, who has served for more than five years and is attached to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court cellblock as a diarist.
