By Zoila Palma: In celebration of the country’s 44th anniversary of Independence, the Belize City Council has illuminated City Hall, marking the official start of the September Celebrations.
The building now glows in patriotic colors as the nation looks ahead to Independence Day on September 21.
The festivities began on September 1 with National Flag Day, a moment of national pride that set the tone for a month of cultural events, parades, and reflections on Belizean identity and unity.
This year’s celebrations are held under the inspiring theme: “Belize@44: Stronger Together, Rising Forever.”
The lighting of City Hall is one of many symbolic acts taking place across the country to honor Belize’s journey since gaining independence in 1981.
