By Zoila Palma: This week, Belize City is hosting the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative.
MCR2030 is a 3-day workshop focused on disaster risk reduction, climate action, and resilience planning.
The City Emergency Management Organization (CEMO), a unit of the Belize City Council, spearheaded this initiative playing a key role in disaster preparedness, emergency management, and building community resilience across Belize City.
In his opening remarks, Mayor Bernard Wagner emphasized the importance of innovative, people-centered approaches to tackle today’s and tomorrow’s challenges—climate change, urban safety, disaster risks, and social inclusion.
With the use of the Disaster Resilience Scorecard, MHEWS Addendum, and Disability Inclusion Annex, the workshop sets the foundation for a stronger local resilience action plan for Belize City.
The Belize City Council extended gratitude to partners UN Women, UNDRR, UN RCO and NEMO for their collaboration with CEMO and the Belize City Council in this important effort.
