By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City father was charged with harm and damage to property following a domestic dispute with his children’s mother after claiming he was disturbed by the conditions in which he found his children.
30-year-old Shawn Wade appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he was arraigned before a magistrate in Court #4. He initially pleaded guilty to slapping the mother of his children but later changed his plea to not guilty after learning he could face a fine of $3,000 or 12 months in prison.
The allegations stem from an incident on Saturday, February 22, 2025, when Wade visited his children at the request of their mother. Upon seeing them, he claimed they did not appear well cared for, leading him to slap the mother in frustration.
Wade also faced a damage to property charge for allegedly breaking a white basin belonging to the woman. However, he insisted in court that he had merely fallen and accidentally hit the sink, causing it to move rather than break.
With no objection from the prosecution, Wade was granted bail of $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount. As part of his bail conditions, he is: not to contact or interfere with the woman or her family, and not to come within 100 yards of her.
Despite the charges, Wade assured the court that he will continue to support his children financially by sending money through his mother.
The case has been adjourned, and Wade is set to return to court at a later date.
