By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City couple, Stacy Jullett Gillett, 41, and her husband, Alex Edward Gillett, 43, were arraigned on Thursday in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on charges of theft involving a $35,000 Nissan Rogue. The pair was taken into custody following the circulation of a wanted poster for Stacy Gillett, who police say was at the center of the vehicle theft.
The couple appeared unrepresented before the Magistrate in Court #2, where they both pleaded not guilty to the charge. Allegations against the Gilletts claim that on July 21, 2024, they dishonestly appropriated the silver Nissan Rogue.
Stacy Gillett, who is the goddaughter of the owner’s late grandmother, allegedly took the vehicle key without permission while visiting their home during a time of family bereavement. According to the owner, Alex Gillett was later seen driving off in the vehicle. Despite requests from the family to return the car, Stacy Gillett reportedly refused, and the vehicle’s title was subsequently transferred to Alex Gillett without the owner’s knowledge.
The Gilletts were granted bail set at $5,000 each, with conditions including no contact with the virtual complainant and maintaining a distance of at least 100 yards from her. The couple met the bail conditions but were warned that any violation could result in the revocation of their bail.
The case will proceed in court on a later date, with the couple due to appear again for further proceedings.
