By Zoila Palma: Through the Belize City Council’s Sister City partnership with Miramar, Florida, the council’s Youth Shadow Councillors are gaining hands-on experience, global exposure, and leadership skills that go far beyond the classroom and they’ve been making the most of it.
Youth shadow councilors have participated in visits to Miramar’s City Clerk’s Office, Parks & Recreation, and the Police and Fire Departments learning about municipal operations and the history of the city.
The youths are also touring educational institutions, including Universal Technical Institute and participating in a Youth Roundtable Discussion at the NSI Broward Center of Innovation.
Activities also include cultural exchange with local students.
“This exchange highlights the power of Sister City partnerships, creating meaningful opportunities for our young people to learn, lead, and represent Belize City internationally,” the Belize City Council said.
