By Zoila Palma: On February 18, 2025, the Belize City Council’s Public Health and City Emergency Management Organization (CEMO) representatives conducted educational awareness school visits throughout the city.
The teams have visited St. Mary’s Primary School, Holy Redeemer Primary School, and Salvation Army Primary School.
The visit has two key purposes: educating students on the importance of litter prevention and its far-reaching effects on the environment as well as the proper functioning of the pump station.
“Littering is not only an eyesore but also directly impacts the functionality of the pump station, which is essential for managing and alleviating flooding in the Downtown area,” the council noted.
“By raising awareness among young people about the connection between a clean environment and the sustainability of our infrastructure, CEMO and the Public Health team are empowering the next generation to take responsibility for their community,” the council added.
This initiative is crucial in ensuring a cleaner, more sustainable city while also safeguarding the city’s water management system for years to come.
The in-school visits continue next week.
