By Zoila Palma: The Belize City Council’s CEMO team recently conducted its annual shelter inspection exercise across Belize City, a vital component of disaster preparedness and risk reduction within the municipality.
These inspections are aimed at ensuring that all designated emergency shelters meet the required standards of cleanliness, safety, comfort, and overall readiness before they are needed during hurricanes, floods, fires, or other emergencies.
The success of this initiative was made possible through strong inter-agency collaboration.
The Belize Police Department, the Belize National Fire Service, NEMO, the Ministry of Education (MoECST), the Ministry of Health & Wellness, and members of the Housing and Shelter Sub-Committees all played key roles in facilitating the inspection process.
The Belize City Council and its CEMO unit expressed gratitude to all partnering agencies and committees for their dedication, cooperation, and continued support.
“Their collective efforts reinforce the city’s disaster preparedness framework and strengthen our capacity to respond effectively in times of emergency,” the Belize City Council said.
