Belize City Councilor Evan Thompson claims self-defence following viral fight video

By Zoila Palma: Today, Belize City Councilor Evan Thompson issued a statement saying that he was defending himself after a video went viral of a fight over the weekend.

“I am aware of a video circulating on social media involving an altercation in which I was involved. I wish to clarify that I was aggressed and acted solely in self-defense. The footage does not provide the full context of the situation, and witnesses, including law enforcement, have confirmed that the other individual was the aggressor. At no point was I arrested or taken into custody in relation to this matter,” Thompson said.

Thompson further apologized and said that it is NOT a reflection of the Belize City Council or the People’s United Party.

“Although I was given the option to press charges, I have chosen not to pursue the matter further in the interest of moving forward. My focus remains on working in the best interest of the residents of Belize City,” Thompson added.
