By Zoila Palma: Today, the Belize City Council announced the appointment of Former Ambassador Dr. Candice Pitts as the new City Administrator, effective November 1, 2025.
This decision follows the recommendations of the interview committee, recognizing Dr. Pitts’ proven record of leadership and public service.
“Dr. Pitts brings municipal governance experience, having previously served as an elected Belize City Councillor, where she led community-focused initiatives and policies. She has also represented Belize on the international stage as Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan) and non-resident Ambassador to Japan, advancing key diplomatic and economic partnerships that continue to benefit Belize,” the Belize City Council noted.
“Her background in education and public service illustrates the range of experience she brings to this position. Dr. Pitts holds a Ph.D. in English from Howard University and has pursued advanced studies in diplomacy and international relations, blending scholarship with practical expertise. She has also served as an educator at the University of Belize and other international universities, shaping future leaders through teaching and mentorship,” the council added.
The Belize City Council says that it looks forward to Dr. Pitts’ guidance as we continue strengthening municipal services and building a city that meets the needs of all residents.
