By Zoila Palma: On February 6, 2026, the Belize City Council proudly celebrated 12 outstanding youth leaders from the 4th cohort of the Belize City Youth Shadow Council Program and the remarkable growth they demonstrated over the tenure of the program at our farewell appreciation luncheon.
Throughout the program, participants gained firsthand exposure to municipal governance through meaningful engagement with Mayor Bernard Wagner, Deputy Mayor Eluide Miller, City Administrator and Council Members, alongside the dedicated staff of the Belize City Council.
“This experience strengthened their leadership capacity, confidence, and commitment to civic service.
Their journey is a powerful reminder of the impact of investing in youth and creating intentional spaces for young voices to lead and thrive,” the Belize City Council said.
The Belize City Council says that the youths leadership journeys continue, and we look forward to seeing how they carry these lessons forward and the impact they will make next.
