By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Canoe Association (BCA) has announced the first event of 2025, the 15th Annual Manatee Lookout Race, sponsored by Loewen’s Hardware, for Sunday, January 19, 2025.

The race will start at Seguro’s water side in Burrell Boom and conclude at the scenic Manatee Lookout. Participants can compete in various categories, including men’s, women’s, mixed, masters, junior, intermural, C2, family, and pleasure, ensuring that everyone has a chance to shine on the water.

Team Slim and Trim Like Guava Limb emerged as the winners of the 14th Annual Loewen’s Hardware Boom to Manatee Lookout Canoe Race in 2024. Following closely were Belize Coastguard 1.5 in second place, WestracUES in third, Teichroeb & Sons LTD / WILD in fourth, and Black Orchid Resort in fifth.

Ѕlіm аnd Тrіm lіkе Guаvа Lіmb, comprising Javier Guardado, Andres Cabb Jr., and Daniel Cruz Jr., produced an impressive performance, edging out the Belize Coast Guard by a second to claim victory. Guava Limb clocked one hour, 23 minutes, and 33 seconds (1:23:33), outsprinting the Coast Guard to the finish line on the Belize River in Ladyville. The Coast Guard, consisting of Wilberto Daniels, James Alford, and Daniel Gregorio, were timed at 1:23:34.

The race will commence sharply at 10:00 AM, so paddlers are urged to arrive early and be ready to hit the water. Preregistration is required and can be done by sending the names of the paddlers, their category, and sponsor names to Jayda Guydis. The entrance fee for the race is $100, which includes lunch for the participants.

The BCA emphasizes that all participants must have their membership fee paid to take part in the races this year. This requirement ensures that the events run smoothly and maintain the high standards expected by all involved.

In addition to the race, the BCA said it will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) ahead of the Boom to City race.
