By Zoila Palma: The Belize Bureau of Standards (BBS), in collaboration with Extension Officers from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and New Growth Industries, hosted an information and sensitization session on December 17, 2025, aimed at improving the quality of agricultural produce through standardization and conformity assessment along vegetable value chains.
The session focused on raising awareness among key stakeholders about quality-related challenges affecting vegetable production, with particular attention given to seed standards and best practices.
Participants were also informed about ongoing efforts to revise the national specification for onions, a key crop within Belize’s vegetable sector.
Discussions included how the proposed standards framework will be developed and implemented at the national level.
