Belize becomes first of 25 countries to benefit from the Latin America and Caribbean Space Agency

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Prime Minister John Briceno says that on May 6, 2024, Belize signed on becoming one of the first 25 countries to benefit from the Latin America and Caribbean Space Agency.

“I attended a session signing the agreement alongside Mr. Gustavo Cabrera Rodriguez, Representative of #ALCE of the Mexican Foreign Ministry. 

This regional information technology institution serves to improve satellite communication accelerating digital transformation capabilities and technology infrastructure to address development needs,” the Prime Minister explained.

 The #ALCE technology can also be used to strengthen the regions blue economies, science and technology in general.

“I am most pleased that through satellite imagery, we will be able to detect the deforestation caused by Guatemalan incursions in our protected areas at the Belize – Guatemala border and protecting our vast Maya archaeology vestiges,” the Prime Minister expressed.
