By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize gets the Sunday it hoped for. Mostly sunny skies, warm temperatures, and calm seas set the stage for World Cup final day, while forecasters keep a distant eye on a system taking shape far to the north in the Gulf of Mexico.
According to the National Meteorological Service, a light, warm, and mostly dry easterly airflow prevails. Skies will be mostly sunny today, turning clear to partly cloudy tonight, with any showers staying isolated, ideal conditions for wherever you plan to watch Spain and Argentina contest the final at 1:00 p.m.
The tropical outlook carries a new note, though not one for Belizean alarm. A broad surface low located over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico has a high chance of becoming a tropical depression later today or tomorrow. That system sits far to Belize’s north, well away from our shores, and the Met Service confirms that elsewhere in the region, including our area, tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the next 48 hours. It is a development worth following, nothing more for now.
Temperatures along the coast will reach a high of 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) and a low of 82 (28 Celsius). Inland areas will be hot, climbing to 94 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) and dropping to 74 (23 Celsius). In the hills, expect a high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) and a low of 68 (20 Celsius).
At sea, conditions stay gentle, with easterly winds of 5 to 15 knots, a light chop, and waves of 2 to 4 feet, another fine day on the water.
Looking ahead to Monday and Monday night, the fair and warm pattern continues, with shower activity, if any, remaining isolated.
Today’s low tides are at 7:54 AM and 8:10 PM, with a high tide at 1:42 PM and another high at 2:11 AM tomorrow. The sun rose at 5:27 AM and will set at 6:30 PM. The forecast was issued by forecaster Catherine Cumberbatch.
