By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize has entered the final month of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season without experiencing a direct hurricane strike, a welcome development for a country that has faced destructive storms in previous years.
The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November 30, making November the final month of the annual period when tropical storms and hurricanes pose a threat to Belize and the wider Caribbean.
As of November 1, Belize has avoided a direct hurricane impact this season, unlike previous years when powerful storms caused widespread flooding, property damage and disruptions to daily life.
In November 2022, Hurricane Lisa struck Belize as a Category 1 hurricane, causing significant damage, particularly in Belize City and surrounding communities.
Hurricane Richard also struck Belize in October 2010, while Hurricane Dean brought destructive conditions to northern Belize in August 2007.
Although the country has been spared a direct hurricane strike so far this year, the season is not yet over.
November can still produce dangerous tropical systems, and residents are encouraged to continue monitoring official weather forecasts and maintaining emergency preparedness plans.
For Belize’s tourism industry, coastal communities, farmers and businesses, avoiding a major hurricane is particularly significant because severe storms can disrupt livelihoods and cause extensive economic losses.
With just 30 days remaining in the official season, Belizeans will be hoping that the country continues to avoid a direct hurricane impact through November 30.
