By Zoila Palma: The Belize Audubon Society held its 56th Annual General Meeting on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Log Cabin in Cayo District.
Nearly 70 members, board directors, and staff gathered to celebrate a year of achievements and to elect new leadership for the upcoming two-year term.
Board President Kevin Geban welcomed attendees, and keynote speaker Dr. Dylan Vernon, Executive Director of the Belize Policy Research Institute at the University of Belize, delivered remarks.
Members reviewed highlights from the 2024 annual report and the draft financial statements, while also recognizing outgoing board member Randal Taylor for his dedicated service.
The event included a lively raffle, with over 50 prizes donated by 30 sponsors, adding excitement to the gathering.
Elections were conducted for open board positions, with new members Rasine Gillett, Olivia Carballo-Avilez, Kenneth Grant, Ishmael Quiroz, and Felicia Leal elected to serve two-year terms.
In his closing remarks, President Geban emphasized the importance of the transition, highlighting the society’s accomplishments and setting a strategic course for future challenges.
He expressed gratitude to both retiring and current board members, acknowledging their vital contributions to Belize Audubon Society’s ongoing success as a leading conservation NGO managing seven protected areas across Belize.
