Belize Athletics Association to hold Special General Assembly for Executive Elections in February

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Athletics Association on Tuesday called for a Special General Assembly to elect a number of members to the Executive Committee on Saturday, February 10, 2024.

The BAA members are expected to participate in election to fill three vacant spots, namely the posts of President, General Secretary, and Treasurer.

BAA President Deon Sutherland and the Treasurer Orville Melendrez reportedly resigned last year while General Secretary Harry Pilgrim passed away.

On Tuesday, the BAA called on “all eligible members to submit nominations for these positions by January 26, 2024”. Nominations shall be submitted to tiffara_jones@hotmail.com

The BAA release also said that “only members in good standing as of January 26, 2024, will be eligible to cast their votes during the Special General Assembly. This ensures a democratic and inclusive approach to the Association’s leadership selection.”

The BAA said that any current executive member who wanted to be nominated for any of the three positions is required to resign by February 9, 2024.

For now, the word from within the BAA said Cojac Smith would be running for President and Gregory Meyers Sr for General Secretary.

Sutherland, Melendrez, and Pilgrim were elected for four years in April 2022. The other members of the BAA Executive Committee elected then are 1^st Vice President – Jaheed Smith, 2^nd Vice President – Tricia Flores, Assistant Secretary – Tiffara Jones, Public Relations Officer – Ashantie Carr, and Committee Members – Andrew Pilgrim, Shelmadine Carr, Alvin Tillett.
