By Breaking Belize News Staff: Regional trade got a boost this week as Belize and Trinidad and Tobago kicked off a landmark three-day trade mission, signaling their joint intent to expand commerce, investment, and development across CARICOM.
With U.S. tariffs rattling global trade, small economies are looking inward—and this trade mission marks a bold pivot. From agriculture to services and beyond, Belize and Trinidad are positioning themselves as stronger together.
At the opening session, Vashti Guyadeen, CEO of the Trinidad & Tobago Chamber of Industry & Commerce, told attendees that Belize has long been on her radar. “We saw potential here,” she said, “and we came with a focused delegation to explore it.”
She revealed that the mission was sparked by member interest and market intelligence, with a goal to explore joint ventures and open Belize as a key Caribbean market. Belizean officials welcomed the collaboration, seeing it as a chance to create resilient economic alliances amid global instability.
Minister of State Chris Coye echoed that urgency, emphasizing that while Belize’s exports to Trinidad exceeded $90 million last year, there remains untapped potential for further growth.
The mission’s final day will focus on signing key memoranda of understanding aimed at securing future collaborations, investment flows, and education exchanges.
In an unpredictable global economy, this initiative could set the bar for what CARICOM nations can achieve when they move as one.
