By Zoila Palma:  On March 26, 2026, the Ministry of Investment hosted a meeting with representatives from Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Discussions included the renewal of the MOU between Belize and Mexico, aimed at opening new trade opportunities that will benefit both countries.

Lincoln Blake, Director of Investment Policy and Compliance Unit told 7News Belize that new trade opportunities would benefit both countries.

“They have several interests in Belize. One interest that they have is to access CARICOM via Belize because they are developing an industrial park in the southern part of Quintana Roo and they also have a logistical corridor that they are trying to utilize on where they want to develop they call it something like polos de desarrollo and it is close to the Riviera the Rio Hondo and what they are developing and they said they wanted to take advantage of that so they could access the CARICOM market by attracting some of the large Mexican Manufacturers so as to comply with the rules of origin in CARICOM via establishing some sort of what they call dual type of factories, they call it Plantas Semillas,” Blake explained.

In addition, Blake said that their hope is to access CARICOM market via Belize.

“The port of Belize is closer to them than the nearest port which is porto progresso for them and that is about 5 hours away from them we are 2 and a half so that is a large distance which would save a lot of time and also money so that will definitely increase their competitive advantage if they want to create those polos de desarrollo in that area and southern Mexico,” Blake further explained.
