By Zoila Palma: The Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) continues to play a critical role in safeguarding Belize’s agricultural sector and export markets, Minister of Agriculture Rodwell Ferguson said during today’s budget presentation.
“BAHA will continue to do its best to protect Belize’s banana industry from the very devastating Fusarium Race 4 disease,” Ferguson stated.
He also highlighted ongoing disease surveillance efforts. “BAHA also continues to protect Belize from the debilitating African Swine Fever disease,” he said, adding that monitoring systems are in place for “Avian Influenza and Newcastle disease.”
Minister Ferguson said that BAHA maintains trade access for Belize.
“The hard-working team at BAHA must be congratulated for preserving Belize’s market access for cattle to Mexico,” he said.
