Press Release
The Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) is aware of a recent public statement made by the Public Service Union (PSU) on social media and rejects the defamatory assertions.
While we do not comment on individual employment cases to protect privacy and dignity, we reaffirm that BAHA follows established disciplinary procedure and the guidelines in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), including due process such as notice, the opportunity to respond, and the right to representation.
BAHA has been receiving an increasing number of public reports in recent weeks and, where appropriate, has conducted investigations. When facts support that gross misconduct has occurred, proportionate disciplinary action is taken.
BAHA wishes to inform the public that corruption, theft, and dereliction of duties are unacceptable, and those officers who are found to have committed such gross misconduct will be disciplined as established in the CBA.
For clarity, the PSU was not involved in recent disciplinary matters and has not requested information on behalf of any member in this regard. BAHA, therefore, finds their social media posting libelous, presumptuous, and in bad faith. BAHA invites the PSU leadership to engage through the dispute-resolution mechanisms set out in the CBA to address any concerns.
BAHA’s focus remains the delivery of professional services that protect human, animal, and plant health in the best interest of agriculture and national development, and remains committed to recognizing and rewarding the many employees who consistently carry out their duties with professionalism and integrity.
