Belize Agricultural Health Authority invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Animal health assistant

Minimum qualification and skills:

Associate degree in agriculture/animal science with with at least one (1) year’s experience in animal health.

Competencies:

1. Strong work ethics, practices and integrity.
2. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
3. Proficient in written and spoken English and working knowledge of Spanish.
4. Strong computer skills particularly in Microsoft 365, database programs and use of GIS & GPS.
5. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
6. Highly motivated team player who is flexible and takes initiative.
7. Experience working with the livestock industry.
8. Basic animal health procedures include but are not limited to administering medications, sample taking, clinical examination of animals (individual and of a flock/herd), and inspection of establishments.
9. Knowledge of veterinary public health, particularly meat inspection.
10. Basic knowledge of epidemiology.
11. Basic knowledge of HACCP certification and Food Safety Good Management Practices.
12. Class “A” Driver’s license.

Job Summary: The Animal Health Assistant provides technical and administrative support in the implementation of the Animal Health Department’s mandate, contributing to effective surveillance, monitoring, and control of animal diseases. The position also supports the Food Safety Department, as required and subject to operational needs.

Salary: BAHA Pay Scale 10: $17,810.76 x 852.84 – $34,014.72
