These roles are crucial for maintaining the health and integrity of Belize’s agricultural products and ecosystems.
The first position, Fruit Fly Technician, requires an Associate Degree in Agricultural Science and at least one year of work experience. The ideal candidate will engage in fruit fly surveillance and control initiatives, public awareness campaigns, and assist in general plant health-related fieldwork. This role demands a range of competencies, including strong work ethics, excellent interpersonal skills, bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, advanced computer skills, and the ability to work independently in remote areas. A valid class “A” driver’s license is also a prerequisite.
The second opening is for a Plant Health Officer. This position requires an Associate Degree in Agricultural Science with a minimum of two years of experience specifically in plant health. The officer will be responsible for conducting plant health activities, including pest surveillance, inspection, certification, diagnostics, and pest control. Similar to the Fruit Fly Technician, the Plant Health Officer must exhibit strong ethical values, interpersonal skills, language proficiency, computer literacy, and the capacity to perform fieldwork with minimal supervision.
The salary for both positions aligns with the BAHA Pay Scale 10 of 2016, ranging from $17,810.76 to $34,014.72. The station of duty for these roles is at the Central Farm in the Cayo District.
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications, which should include a letter of application, résumé, proof of qualification, official transcript, two recent reference letters, and a valid police record, by December 15, 2023. Applications can be submitted to the Human Resource Director at the Belize Agricultural Health Authority in Belmopan, Belize, via mail or email.
