By Belize Live News Staff: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) has issued a public statement addressing growing concerns from customers over what many describe as unusually high monthly electricity bills.
In a media release issued on May 22, BEL acknowledged receiving feedback and inquiries from customers regarding their recent bills and said the company understands the challenges families face managing household expenses.
According to BEL, warmer seasonal temperatures across Belize are causing cooling appliances such as air conditioners and refrigerators to work harder, resulting in increased household energy consumption. The company says this naturally leads to higher electricity usage during hotter months.
BEL also encouraged customers to make small adjustments such as using fans, circulating cool air and closing blinds during peak daytime heat to help manage energy consumption.
The statement comes as many Belizeans continue voicing frustration online over rising living expenses and higher utility costs.
