By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Belize Defence Force (BDF) is preparing to boost its ranks, with 300 new soldiers expected to join in the coming months. According to Brigadier General Azariel Loria, the BDF has received approval to conduct a double intake, a rare move aimed at addressing manpower needs and strengthening national defense.
General Loria said the force initially planned to begin recruiting this month but has encountered delays due to budget limitations and the late arrival of essential equipment, including ammunition and firearms. If all goes well, the first wave of 150 recruits will begin training soon, followed by a second intake of another 150 later this year.
The full process will unfold over the next 8 to 10 months. While recruitment applications have been strong, the BDF must overcome logistical hurdles before training can begin.
