By Zoila Palma: The Bankers Association of Belize is warning the public and customers of all member financial institutions to exercise heightened vigilance regarding ongoing telephone and messaging scams targeting bank account holders.
The Bankers Association said that phone call scams are ongoing and actively contacting individuals while impersonating official banking representatives.
“In an attempt to appear legitimate, these scammers frequently manipulate caller details, display recognized corporate logos on communication platforms, or use deceptive numbers and email addresses. During these unsolicited interactions, fraudsters attempt to deceive customers into disclosing sensitive personal details, including account credentials, passwords, and password reset codes,” the statement said.
Member banks across Belize emphasize that legitimate financial institutions will never solicit confidential security data directly from customers.
To protect your accounts and personal financial information, the Bankers Association urges the public to follow essential security guidelines including keeping credentials safe, do not click unverified links, use multi-factor authentication and verify communications directly.
Any customer who suspects they have received a fraudulent call or believes their banking credentials have been compromised should contact their respective financial institution immediately and report it.
